Scenario Based Learning Adventures in the Workplace
Presenters: Volunteers from the Winn-Dixie Training Department
We all know that learning is not a spectator sport. Learners do not discover much by just sitting and listening, memorizing prepackaged assignments, and spitting out answers.
The use of experiential learning has many benefits for the learner, such as increased long-term retention, increased interest in learning, meeting the needs of learners with different learning styles, and expanding the experience adult learners already possess.
Learn by doing!
In this month’s meeting, we will explore three different off the shelf products that you will have an opportunity to experience in an abbreviated format. This will not be a sales presentation. It is a fun opportunity to test some engaging learning activities.
Here are the learning destinations for this meeting. You will have the opportunity to experience two during the program:
7Cs – Come sail the "Seven C's" and raise your team’s effectiveness with Tall Ships, the fast-paced simulation that challenges teams to learn and practice seven critical skills: Clarity, Capability, Collaboration, Commitment, Communication, Continuous Improvement, and Creativity. The Scenario: The Seven Seas Company has selected your company to collaborate with them in an attempt to win a lucrative contract for designing and building a tall ship. But your company must first demonstrate that it can successfully perform the “Seven C’s” upon which The Seven Seas Company is founded. Can your team rise to the challenge to win the deal?
The Cave - Cave Without a Name is a team simulation for management development training. Team members learn and practice the group process skills needed to achieve synergy, including problem solving, consensus decision making, and conflict resolution. The Scenario: An expedition begins innocently as a group of tourists are admitted to the Cave Without a Name. As they descend deep into the cave, they suddenly hear a loud “shoof!” sound, and without warning, the once quiet river becomes a raging torrent, obliterating the path and causing everyone to scramble. It quickly becomes obvious to the group that they are trapped with no easy way out. Now they are left to figure out a way to work together in order to escape and survive with only the contents of their daypacks.
Flight from Savo – On this journey you will experience first-hand the fundamental supervisory skills i.e.,: Guiding the Work, Organizing the Work, Developing Your Staff, Managing Performance, and Managing Relations. The Scenario: On an expedition to study volcanoes, you and your group of scientists barely escape injury when your vintage World War II aircraft crashes on the remote island of Savo. The only way off the island is to construct a Stearman PT-13D plane from a cache of old parts discovered on the island. Can your supervisor get your group to build the escape plane in time undefined before the volcano erupts?
This will be a highly interactive meeting – that will give you an opportunity to explore these interactive learning solutions, as well as, network with other members.
