Dick Handshaw, of Handshaw, Inc., offers invaluable insight into the world of instructional design and how to communicate its value. Highly respected in the design field, Dick gives a historical perspective of instructional design as well as practical advice on how to apply different design models to different needs.

In this session, we’ll answer such questions as:

• Does cheaper development really save money?
• What are some strategies for shortening instructor led training?
• Is a systematic design approach still relevant in today’s world?

Dick will use several real world case studies to demonstrate the value of certain strategies and design models. You will learn ways to communicate the real value of your results. And, you will even learn when it’s best to (sometimes) keep measurement data to yourself.

Dick Handshaw is a consultant, speaker, and entrepreneur in the learning profession, with more than 30 years of experience as a learning and performance improvement practitioner. He has served as a senior level consultant for many organizations to establish an instructional design strategy, methodology, and practice. Dick is a respected thought leader and has presented at various international conferences for ASTD and International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI). 

Dick’s company, Handshaw, Inc., has grown over the years from an in-home start-up business to a large team of exceptionally talented and experienced professionals with an impressive track record. A resident of Charlotte, North Carolina, Dick is recognized as a successful entrepreneur and important contributor to the Charlotte business community. He is an active board member of the ASTD Charlotte chapter.
