As training and education professionals, we are familiar with the value of adding games and simulations to our learning materials. Games and simulations help to engage learners, reinforce new knowledge, and provide opportunities to practice new skills in a safe and economical environment. But where do we go from here, and why?

This session explores the next wave in gaming, immersive learning environments, and the learning theory that supports their use. We'll look at the outcomes of recent research and explore some of the issues involved in moving to the next level of gaming. Along the way, we'll review tools and resources available for use in developing your own environments.

Participants will leave with an increased understanding of the use of immersive learning environments to enhance learning outcomes as well as the knowledge it takes to get started designing them and building support and buy-in from organizational stakeholders.

At this month’s meeting you will:

· Learn how to reinforce new knowledge with use of games and simulations

· Provide practice opportunities in a safe and economical environment

· Explore some of the issues involved with gaming

· Review tools and resources available for developing games

Before the meeting:  Please join us on our chapter website for a discussion on gaming and immersive learning environments for training and education at:  http://www.astdnefl.org/Default.aspx?pageId=253230&mode=MessageList&eid=103300
