Prepare for ATD Certification—Together

Thinking about earning an ATD certification but not sure where to begin? Already studying but looking for structure, accountability, and an opportunity to talk through the material with other talent development professionals?

This study group series provides a collaborative space to explore the ATD certification process, become familiar with the ATD Capability Model, identify useful study resources, and work through topics within the Professional Capability section of the model.

Each session focuses on one area of the model and provides opportunities to discuss concepts, consider real-world applications, ask questions, and share study strategies with fellow professionals.

What to Expect

Each study group session will include:

• A brief look at ATD certification and the certification process
• An overview of the ATD Capability Model
• Recommended study resources and preparation strategies
• A focused discussion of one Professional Capability
• Opportunities to connect concepts with workplace examples
• Time for questions, discussion, and peer learning
• Practical takeaways to support your continued studying

The goal is not to memorize information during the session. Instead, the study group aims to help you understand the concepts, recognize how they show up in your work, and identify areas where you should continue studying.

Who Should Attend?

The series is for talent development professionals who are:

• Considering pursuing ATD certification
• Preparing for the APTD or CPTD exam
• Beginning their certification preparation
• Already studying and looking for additional structure
• Interested in learning alongside other talent development professionals

You don't have to be an expert—or even have your study plan figured out—to participate. Bring your questions, curiosity, and willingness to learn.

Before the Session

Participants are encouraged to complete the Capability Model Assessment and review the applicable ATD certification resources for the specific capability before each session.

Come prepared to consider:

• What do I already know about this topic?
• What do I need to learn more about?

You may also want to bring your preferred study materials, questions, notes, or examples from your own work. The more you bring to the conversation, the more opportunities there are for discussion and peer learning.

By participating in the series, you'll build greater familiarity with the ATD Capability Model, explore individual Professional Capabilities in greater depth, discover resources to support your preparation, and develop a more intentional approach to your certification study.
