Session Title:

From Instructional Design to Learning Experience Design:

A Modern Take on a Classic Role

Description: As the demand for digital learning continues to rise, so does the evolution of the instructional design role. In this session, we’ll walk through a modern “day in the life” of today’s instructional designer—and how the role is shifting into learning experience design. You will gain insight into how professionals create effective, inclusive learning environments, assess impact, and adapt for various learners. We’ll also explore how AI is transforming the workflow, easing common frustrations, and creating new opportunities, not replacing talent. Whether you’re exploring this career path or already working in L&D, this session will give you a realistic, forward-looking perspective on what it takes to thrive in this space.

Key Takeaways:

  • Describe how the instructional design role is evolving into learning experience design and identify the skills that support this shift
  • Apply an inclusive design approach using Content Lifecycle Management (CLM), accessibility best practices, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to meet diverse learner needs
  • Demonstrate how to use AI tools to enhance creativity, speed up your workflow, and support human-centered learning design
  • Explore go-to strategies for continuous learning, upskilling, and staying relevant in the LXD field
